ScalesCurrent Lecture What is Rock?- Historically, rock was directed towards the youth and was considered rebellious.- Rock can be defined by many aspects, and not everyone agrees on these same aspects.- Rock is interconnected to other genres. It has been influenced by and has influenced different genres of music. Past Vs. Present- We presently listen to music in the form of CDs, downloading, and streaming. Records, vinyl, and cassettes were ways to listen to music in the past.- In the present, most music is digital; however, in the past, it was analog. These have two different sounds and qualities of the music. Some people believe that vinyl sounds better and is more involved like an activity.- The music industry was more based on singles rather than albums in the past. However, this switched when the Beatles produced the album Lonely Hearts. Presently, singles are now more popular than whole albums, yet still some artists choose to produce albums as a whole rather than using other songs as fillers for their albums.- Technology has impacted and changed the way music is created concerning recording and live shows.
