The BeatlesCurrent Lecture Psychedelic Rock- Beach Boyso The experimentation of psychedelic rock is also seen in the song “Good Vibrations.” This song utilized the theremin, which is an instrument. To play the theremin, one must place hands near and far from the instrument in order to change the pitch. Brian Wilson prepared a whole album with songs like this song; however, the rest of the group decided not to go through with the album because it was too much work. Wilson later recorded and releasedthis album as Smile about three decades later. - The Beatleso The Beatles were influenced by Indian Guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. o They produced an album titled Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. It wasn’t originally a concept album, but it turned into one. This created the idea of a rock concept album. It also paved the way for albums to be considered a full work of it instead of just singles with fillers. The only song on this album that was written with concept in mind was “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band,” which goes straight into the next song by Ringo Star. “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” was claimed to stand for LSD according to critics. The song “When I’m 64” does not sound like psychedelic rock. “Within You, Without You” consists of Indian music with only George Harrison and Indian musicians on the record. For the song “A Day in the Life,” These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. In this song, all of the instruments were instructed to play low to high keys on top of a track with just piano and drums. The strangest song on the album is titled “Revolutionary 49.” It borrows from classical music and contains spoken pieces.o They started their own record company, Apple Records. George Harrison began showing his songwriting abilities in the album Abby Road.o For their last album Let It Be, they brought in Phil Spector. A naked version ofthis album was created. It eliminated Phil Spector’s influence on the album.o They stopped performing live a while before they actually split.o After the breakup, they all pursued solo careers. Ringo Star performed soloand also starred in movies. George Harrison wrote spiritual music. PaulMcCartney formed the band Wing with his wife Linda. He also had a solomusic career. He was named the best songwriter in the world by GuinnessBook of World Records. o John Lennon became one of the biggest icons during that generation. His wifewas Yoko Ono.
