Country RockCurrent Lecture Heavy Metal- Cream was one of the first bands to show heavy metal elements. They had drums, guitar, bass, and vocals play in a parallel fashion. This can be seen in their song “Sunshine of Your Love.”- Black Sabbatho They were from England.o Ozzy hated the term heavy metal. He referred to their music as doom rock. He started a solo career when the band split.- Alice Coopero They were an American band.o Alice Cooper was just the name of the band at first; then, it became the singer’s persona.- Aerosmitho They were not considered a heavy metal band by most.o Their first top 40 hit was “Sweet Emotion.”o “Walk This Way” was a top 10 hit. Run-D.M.C. covered this song and broke it into a racial integration for hip hop.- Van Haleno Van Halen was a California band. o “Running with the Devil” was sang by David Lee Roth. He was replaced after some time.o Eddie Van Halen played guitar for the band. He added the tapping technique into music.These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. Clapton wrote if for Pattie Boyd, which was George Harrison’s wife.- Lynyrd Skynyrdo They are from Jacksonville, GA. o The members were high school friends.o They named the band after their gym teacher. This guy eventually befriended the band when they became famous.o Lynyrd Skynyrd lasted until 1977. A plane crash killed several members duringthis time.o They brought the element of Southern pride. This pride brings up similar controversies that the confederate does. o “Sweet Home Alabama” contains lyrics about Neil Young. This was a reaction to Young’s song “Southern Man.” It also contained several other controversiallyrics. Country Rock- Country Rock combines country elements with rock. It contains other country elements, not just the vocal style.- The Eagleso They were from California, where a country rock movement was present.o Two members played for many records for several artists, but they began their own band.o Desperado was almost considered a concept album.o One of their greatest hits albums battled with Michael Jackson’s album Thriller for the best-selling album ever.- The Byrdso They were the birth of country rock.These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
