Ethos is the part of rhetoric that focuses on the credibility of the speaker. It is important to remember that ethos can change over time. II. There are three main types of ethos:a. Initial: speaker has predetermined ethos before they even begin to speak. This included their appearance, title, background, etc. b. Derived: speaker’s credibility in the process of communication. Attention, motivation, and cognition can all affect derived ethos. c. Terminal: this is the ethos the speaker has once communication has ended. III. In order to improve speaker credibility, it is important to keep your speech clear and relevant. Organize your thoughts in a concise manor. Make sure to use body language and eye contact effectively.
