Etón Water Resistant Emergency Radio Your etón emergency radio allows you to be prepared for any emergency situation. The etón radio can be powered without an external power source and features handy emergency tools such as an AM/FM/shortwave radio, a flashlight, an emergency blinker, a siren, and even a cell-phone charger. These instructions explain how to power your radio and how to use each of its features. Equipment Your etón radio comes with: • Etón emergency radio • 120V-4.5V adapter • Cellphone adapters • Carrying case Powering your Radio The etón emergency radio can be powered by three means: an external 120V power source, an internal Ni-MH battery, or a set of three AA batteries. External Power: Your emergency radio can be powered by any standard 120V power source, such as a wall outlet. To power your radio with an external power source, locate your radio’s power switch (Figure-2A) and flip it to “dynamo/adapter.” Then: 1. Locate your radio’s adapter ports (Figure-1A). Flip the black rubber cover open. Inside, you will find two ports. 2. Locate the port labeled “4.5V”. Plug your 120V-4.5V adapter into this port. Your radio is now ready to be powered by any standard 120V power supply, such as a wall outlet. Page 1 Figure 1. Back of radioDANGER: In order to reduce the risk of injury from electrical shock, always hold onto the adapter while plugging or unplugging your radio from the wall outlet. Pulling on the cord may result in injury or damages from electrical shock. Internal Battery: In order to use the internal Ni-MH battery, it must be charged first. This can be done in two ways: the hand-crank or the included 120V-4.5V adapter. NOTE: In order to charge the internal battery, the radio’s power switch (Figure-1A) must be off. When the battery is charged, flip the power switch to “dynamo/adapter.” Hand-Crank: To charge the internal battery with your radio’s hand-crank: 1. To use the hand-crank to charge your radio’s internal battery, locate your radio’s hand-crank (Figure-1C). Pull the crank toward you, freeing the crank’s knob from the recess in the radio body. Flip the crank arm on its hinge so that the knob faces away from the radio body. 2. Grasping the knob, proceed to rotate the crank arm in either direction to generate power for your emergency radio. 3. When you have generated enough power, flip your radio’s power switch to “dynamo/adapter” to use. Adapter: To recharge your emergency radio using the included 120V-4.5V adapter, follow the instructions in the External Power portion of your manual. Removable Batteries: Your emergency radio can be powered using three AA batteries. To power your radio using AA batteries, locate your radio’s power switch (Figure-2A) and flip it to “battery.” Then: 1. Locate your radio’s battery compartment (Figure-1B). To open the compartment, press firmly on the cover and pull in the direction of the arrow. 2. Place your batteries in the compartment, following the positive and negative indicators. DANGER: Remove the batteries from your emergency radio when: a) they have lost power or, b) if not in use for extended periods. Leaving batteries in your radio for extended periods of time may result in the batteries leaking fluid, overheating, or exploding. CAUTION: Failure to properly orient your batteries will result in a short which may damage your radio or cause the batteries to leak fluid, overheat, or explode. NOTE: Do not mix sets of batteries or battery types. This may result in your batteries leaking fluid, overheating, or exploding. 3. Replace the compartment cover. Push in the opposite direction of the arrow to lock the cover in place. Page 2 How to find a station on FM or AM There are three levels of frequency in which you can use this radio. FM, AM, or Short Wave. Selecting the level of frequency can be done using the big center knob and switch located in Figure-2B. To select a specific frequency, use the ‘TUNING’ knob on the right side of the Emergency Radio, seen as Figure-2C. The display showed in Figure-2D shows the frequency you are tuned into. Figure 2. Front of radio FM Radio 1. Move the center sliding switch to the far left so the red line is under the FM dot (Figure-2B). 2. Watch the tuning display and use the top row with the label ‘FM’ on the far as your frequency scale. 3. Using the ‘Tuning’ knob, move the red line, left or right, in the tuning display to select the desired frequency. 4. Increase volume (Figure-2E) as desired. AM Radio 1. Move the center sliding switch to the middle so the red line is under the AM dot (Figure-2B). 2. Watch the tuning display and use the second to the top row with the label ‘AM’ on the far left as your frequency scale. 3. Using the ‘Tuning’ knob, move the red line, left or right, in the tuning display to select the desired frequency. 4. Increase volume (Figure-2E) as desired. WARNING! SOUND LEVEL MAY CUASE HEARING IMPAIRMENT! PLACE EMERGENCY RADIO AT A DISTANCE OR LOWER VOLUME TO PREVENT EAR DAMAGE. How to use the light: There are three modes where you can use the side light. You have the option of either standard white light or flashing red light. There is also the ‘OFF’ mode. For a longer lasting light, be sure there is enough power saved in the Emergency Radio before use. Red Flashing Light Page 3 1. Turn on the Red Flashing Light by sliding the switch to the right and the red dot is aligned with the black dot, with the label ‘Flash.’ 2. How to use the siren: The siren may be used to attraction attention in case of an emergency. The ON/OFF switch is located on the front lower right side, next to the volume control (see also Figure-2F). To use the siren make sure there is significant amount of power loaded into the Emergency Radio. Without enough power, the siren will sound distorted or may not sound at all.
