ENGINEERING 100W LAB ASSIGNMENT Dr. Thalia AnagnosENGINEERING 100W LAB ASSIGNMENT Dr. Thalia AnagnosObjectives of Assignment:- Inform your boss at EnvironSJ about research in Antarctica and how that research is important to company goals.- Compile information from multiple sources and create a useful, concise, organized summary.- Cite Sources and use quotes correctly. Background: Dr. Jeanne Linsdell, Director of Technical Communications for the College of Engineering, spoke on Friday, October 31 about Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, and the importance of Antarctica in understanding our environment. In her presentation she talked about the many multi-national multi-disciplinary research projects underway in Antarctica. Examples are a project to evaluate the hole in the ozone layer, another to drill more than three kilometers into the ice to obtain an 800,000 to one-million year record of chemical compounds in the atmosphere, and a third to test the viability of wind power in Antarctica. In addition to attending her talk, you were asked to read several articles and web sites about current research projects on the southern continent.Assignment: On November 14, Thalia Anagnos, President of EnvironSJ (your boss) is going to be giving a presentation to the Board of Directors on future business opportunities for the company. She believes that research and consulting opportunities in Antarctica will continue to grow, and that EnvironSJ has the expertise to contribute to some of this exciting work. To help her prepare, she has asked you to write a summary report that gives an overview of key issues. She needs enough detail in your summary so that she can draw from it for her presentation. She has asked you to include:- why Antarctica is so important to our understanding of Earth and the environment, - a short summary of at least two environmental issues being investigated in Antarctica, and - identification of expertise at EnvironSJ that would support this research (for example, our Aerospace Engineering Department has expertise in satellite design, which would be useful for remote sensing and data collection). Refer to your notes and feel free to include quotes from the speaker or other resources. A variety of resources related to Antarctica can be found on the class web site www.engr.sjsu.edu/tanagnos/ENGR100W (click on Assignments).Guidelines: The assignment must be turned in at the end of this class period and a copy MUST BE TURNED INTO TURNITIN.COM.
