ENGR 100W LAB ASSIGNMENT Dr Thalia Anagnos Objectives of Assignment Practice writing instructions Practice working in teams Background EnvironSJ has just developed a new product the EnvironSJ EM100 energy meter which the company plans to sell to the general public The energy meter has a variety of attractive features which we will demonstrate in class including the ability to measure voltage current and power as well as the length of time the device was used It also calculates the total energy used and the cost of that energy The meter runs on two watch batteries It can accommodate a maximum of 120 V 15 amps or 1800 W Assignment This assignment is to be completed in pairs though you may turn in individual results Your boss has asked your team to develop a set of clear instructions for use of the power meter Your audience is the general public At minimum your instructions should explain the following The features of the meter Generally how to use the meter to measure voltage current and power How to set the price KwH of energy used How to read the total energy used and total cost of that energy How to clear the time How to clear the maximum wattage and maximum power readings How to set the power overload which will cause the meter to beep if you are approaching the overload power Include any general warnings or special notices that are needed Guidelines Read the reference material on the elements of good instructions found on the class web site Work in pairs in class to figure out how to use the meter and to start your instructions You may finish your instructions on your own and turn them in on Wednesday at the beginning of class A copy MUST BE TURNED INTO TURNITIN COM if not 5 points I have included some images at the end of this assignment that you can alter as you wish to clarify your instructions Proofread your document before you print it Submit an electronic copy to Turnitin com Hand in one hard copy for each member of the team unless they will be identical Grading Title and brief introduction summarizing the task s to be performed Instructions written with the intended audience in mind Steps in chronological order alternatives identified Visuals used and properly labeled Instructions clear and easy to follow clear directives Attractively laid out with lots of white space and headings Correct grammar punctuation spelling parallel structure Total Page 1 2 1 2 3 4 1 2 15 points ENGR 100W Page 2 LAB ASSIGNMENT Dr Thalia Anagnos
