ENGR 100W LAB ASSIGNMENT Dr. Thalia AnagnosObjectives of Assignment:Assignment:Grading:ENGR 100W LAB ASSIGNMENT Dr. Thalia AnagnosObjectives of Assignment:- Demonstrate understanding of the economics of energy efficiency- Practice business letter writingBackground: Last Friday, MaryAnne Lauderdale of Lime Energy spoke about the importance ofenergy efficiency. She discussed the growth in U.S. energy consumption and the corresponding growth in the energy efficiency market. Of particular interest was her discussion of the economics of energy efficiency projects. The development of any project requires evaluation of the tot al project costs, the annual energy savings, and the annual operating savings. Comparing annual savings with total project costs produces a projection of total time for recovery of the client’s investment.Assignment: In this assignment you are a Project Engineer at EnvironSJ. Your client is XYZ Manufacturing, which owns a large facility in San Jose. You performed an energy audit last month (on February 10) and determined that they could significantly reduce energy consumption by installing new chillers, changing interior lighting to LED and compact fluorescent bulbs, replacing outdoor lighting with low energy alternatives, upgrading the heating plant boilers and associated controllers, and putting electricity meters on all buildings. Slide 11 of Ms. Lauderdale’s presentation summarizes the project costs and savings as well as the number of years for payback.Write a business letter to Larry Erg, President of XYZ Manufacturing, outlining your proposal for improving energy efficiency at the manufacturing facility. Discuss the economics of this project and persuade him that he should consider investing in this energy efficiency project. Mr. Erg can only invest $1.5 million per year into this project, so you may need to help him set some priorities for which aspect of the project that he should implement first.Your business letter should include the following:- an introduction that explains the purpose and scope of the letter, - a description of the proposed project and the associated costs,- an analysis of his options - a concluding section with your recommendations of how he should proceed.Remember, you are trying to attract a new client to EnvironSJ so your letter should be convincing. Guidelines: The assignment must be turned in at the end of this class period and a copy MUST BE TURNED INTO TURNITIN.COM (if not -5 points). Complete the business letter with 12 point Times Roman font, 1 1/2 line spacing, and 1- inch margins. Proofread your document before you print it. Submit an electronic copy to Turnitin.com.
