New Deal (FDR’s plan) Relieves o sufferingo Starvationo Povertyo Unemployment 25%, the highest its ever been Supports Banks Taxpayers were the ones who were helping to pay for the new government programs The upper class were the ones paying the taxes so they considered the government programs unnecessary handouts The Dams were created so that everyone around the dam could have electricity The working class did not like the New Deal because they were still working as they did before the Great Depression and they were not really getting helpfrom the New Deal o They don’t want to support immigrantso They don’t want to support the shiftless never do-well class (the undeserving poor)o But in a way the working class don’t mind helping the prideful poor because those people still want to work and support themselves A lot of programs were startedo Farm Act Gave money to farmers so they would not produce food whichwould ultimately help control food pricesThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
