Olivia Gilliam March 2 2021 In this concept map I focused on the juxtaposition of the times primarily on the themes of emancipation and gained freedoms and newfound modernization compared to the restriction of certain races and demographics and the ways in which these groups were targeted Stemming from emancipation and modernizatioin arose personal automobiles petting parties drinking on campus Specifically in the African American community some things happening during this time were the Harlem Renaissance and the Great Black Migration On the other hand of restriction and target is found general immigration restriction legislation which can be seen through the career of A Mitchell Palmer and also with the rise of Darwinism the Scopes Trial is emblematic of targeting through Darwinism One uniting factor is William Jennings Bryan who was considered the Great Commoner as well as consumerism which made a lot of goods more accessible to all groups demographics and socioeconomic statuses
