Olivia GilliamMarch 2, 2021In this concept map, I focused on the juxtaposition of the times, primarily on the themes of ‘emancipation’ and gained freedoms and newfound modernization compared to the restriction of certain races and demographics and the ways in which these groups were targeted. Stemming from emancipation and modernizatioin, arose personal automobiles, petting parties, drinking on campus. Specifically in the African American community, some things happening during this time were the Harlem Renaissance and the Great Black Migration. On the other hand, of restriction and target is found general immigration restriction legislation which can be seen through the career of A. Mitchell Palmer and also with the rise of Darwinism, the Scopes Trial is emblematic of targeting through Darwinism. One uniting factor is William Jennings Bryan who was considered the “Great Commoner” as well as consumerism which made a lot of goods more accessible to all groups, demographics, and socioeconomic
