they have to go the long way want to go to gain more valuable things from new world and need ports to stop at for trade with west indies and these new products from the new world why they started servant immigrants came to the Chesapeake area Between 1680 and 1750 there is a major jump in the number of indentured servants in Virginia 7 to 49 Most indentured servants up until 1660 because they were almost half of the price of slaves Because of the fire in London the cost to live in VA goes up and less want to go there become indentured servants because there is work
