Introduction to Social PsychologySocial Psychology is the study of social thought and social behavior. This area of psychology also focuses on how social situations influence the behavior, thoughts, and actions of people.V. Review Syllabusa. Course Goals: The goal of psych 280 is to expose students to the basic psychological processes that underlie human social interactions (behavior and thoughts) and to give students an idea of how social psychology research is conducted.b. Required Materials: Students need to have the book Social Psychology, Second Custom Edition for Iowa State University, 2013, by Aronson, Wilson, &Akert. This specific edition is necessary to do well in this class, as there are 24 readings in Part 2 of the book that are covered in exams. Students also need a clicker, as there will be clicker quizzes each class. (Clickers can be purchased at the ISU Bookstore.)c. Exam Dates: There are 4 regular exams scheduled for this course: February 5th, March 5th, April 9th, and one during the week of May 4th-8th. Each of these exams covers specific chapters from the textbook and material discussed in lecture. The exams are composed of 60 multiple choice questions (1 point each) and 2 short answer questions (worth up to 3 points each). The first three exams are evening exams (6:45pm-8:00pm), and the fourth exam time has not been scheduled yet.These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.i. In-class quizzes (clicker quizzes) will be at the beginning of every lecture period. There will be two questions each quiz—one from the book and one from the previous lecture’s material.ii. There is one online test and details on this test will be posted the week ofMarch 10th.d. Grading: There are 345 points possible over the course of the semester and grades will be distributed as a normal approximation of 200-level courses at ISU.e. Research Credits: 10 research credits are needed for this class. These credits can be achieved in two ways:i. Research study participation: students can participate in research throughSONA. One research credit is worth 3 points in the class. Before the third week of the semester, an email from SONA will be sent out to students containing a username and password. Students can then access the SONAsystem and sign up for participation in research studies.ii. Essays: students can also choose to write essays in order to get research credits. Each essay is worth two credits (or 6 points) and can only be written on the specific 9 essays written in the syllabus. Only one essay canbe turned in per week, starting January 27th, 2015.VI.
