the fundamental methods and content of scientific psychology and will concentrate on the understanding of basic principles This course will span a broad range of topics in psychology and will be presented in a format that is accessible to both psychology and non psychology majors Academic Dishonesty According to the Regents Rules and Regulations Series 50101 Section 2 2 Scholastic dishonesty includes but is not limited to cheating plagiarism collusion the submission for credit of any work or materials that are attributable in whole or in part to another person taking an examination for another person any act designed to give unfair advantage to a student or the attempt to commit such acts Students are expected to educate themselves concerning what constitutes academic honesty A lack of knowledge concerning academic dishonesty will not be considered an excuse If academic dishonesty occurs students will be disciplined according to the university guidelines Students with Disabilities Policy Students with disabilities that attend the University of Texas at Arlington will be accommodated in accordance with the American with Disabilities Act and students will not be discriminated against concerning the disability Students should notify the instructor at the beginning of the semester and offer documentation from appropriate administration to ensure that they will obtain the best educational experience possible Drop Policy If a student appropriately drops a course before 5 00 p m on the Census Date February 2nd no grade will be given Additionally the student may drop the course and receive a W by April 1st Please refer to the University academic calendar for these dates Classroom Conduct Students are expected to conduct themselves within the realms of University policies Students will respect the learning opportunities of others and themselves and will not use cell phones sleep in class engage in distracting conversation or fail to allow the companion to the book that provides study aid The textbook is available at the University bookstore Attendance and Pop Quizzes Attendance will not be monitored at the individual level However students that do not attend class on a regular basis perform more poorly than those who do Historically poor attendance in this course has correlated with failing grades Therefore pop quizzes will be administered during any class period at any time There will be no make up opportunities for the pop quizzes Additionally students who leave class early or are tardy will be considered absent as far as quizzes are concerned Make up Policy It is the responsibility of the student to obtain classroom notes from another student in the event of the absence PowerPoints will always be available to you I will not re lecture under any circumstances and it is not necessary to notify me of your absence unless it will occur on an exam day In the event that an exam must be missed I must be notified one week prior to the test and provided with appropriate documentation University excused absences funerals religious events and illnesses that cause hospitalization or treatment by a physician will be the only absences that are excused and can only be excused if proper documentation is provided Proper documentation does not include a note from a parent I will only grant a make up test under extreme circumstances and it is solely up to my discretion In the event that a test is missed and I am not notified prior to the test your zero for that test will be the test grade that is dropped no matter Examinations Each examination will consist of 50 questions All material gained from the book PowerPoints class discussion videos activities or otherwise provided during the course merits inclusion on the test Grading Policy and Final Grades The final grade in this course is a calculation of the result of three examinations the final exam and 5 pop quizzes to be given during any class period The lowest of the four exam grades will be dropped Therefore the final grade will be calculated out of 400 points Exam 1 Exam 2 Exam 3 Final Exam Quizzes 100 100 100 100 100 500 points 358 400 A 318 357 B 278 317 C 238 277 D 0 237 F Each exam will consist of 50 questions and the final exam make up exam will cover Chapter 13 as well as all of the other information covered in the course Students arriving more than 15 minutes late or after the first completed exam has been submitted will not be permitted to take an exam no matter what the circumstances Grade Inquiries The calculations provided in the grading policy are sufficient for each student to calculate the grade for this course There will be no grade bumping as the calculations above already include the rounding up of grades ending in a
