Mastery of these goals will be assessed via exams with questions that focus on each of the knowledge skills. The use of Blackboard is required in this course. Make it a habit to check Blackboard regularly. http://www.uta.edu/blackboard/ I will use this space to post announcements, course content, additional readings, updates to the syllabus, and any other relevant content. I may also refer to attendance logs if, and when, you discuss your class progress with me. - As a courtesy to me and fellow students, please let me know in advance if you will not be in class, or if you have to leave early. Examinations: There will be five exams. The exams will cover lectures, videos and assigned textbook readings. A student arriving late after the scheduled class start time, on an exam date, will not be allowed to take the exam after the first completed exam is turned in. You need to bring a scantron and pencil to class in order to complete the tests. Course Evaluation & Final Grade: The course grade will be based on the mean of the four highest exam grades. If you miss an exam and do not have a University- approved excuse for doing so, this will be the grade that is dropped from the final average. The grade for each exam will be the percentage correct of exam questions. Grades will be based on the following scale: A: >= 89 B: >= 78< 88 C: >= 76 < 77 D: >= 56 < 66 F: <=56.4 All exams are of equal weight. Rounding will be applied only for the calculation of the course grade. This will consist of raising a decimal fraction of 0.5 or greater to 1. For example, a course grade of 77.5 will be rounded to 78 for a course letter grade of B. A course grade of 77.4 will yield a course grade of C. Missed Exams - Makeup exam requests will be approved only when appropriate documentation is provided, within 7 days of the missed quiz/assignment, indicating that compelling circumstances prevented a student from taking a scheduled exam. Examples of such circumstances include funeral attendance, religious holidays, official university activities (e.g., sports event), and illness. No information should be provided in a makeup exam request that is private or confidential in nature. - You must request a make-up exam, in writing. ALL makeup exams, except the final exam, must be taken by Friday, December 9, 2011. - The final exam may not be taken before the scheduled date for this exam. - A note or e-mail from a friend or family member is not acceptable documentation. - Oversleeping, busy printers, not having a scantron, misplaced keys, and not finding a parking spot are not valid excuses. If you are having difficulty with the class material, or believe you are doing poorly, please talk to me about your situation sooner rather than later. Do not wait until after the final to discuss your gpa, exam grades, or if you have a dispute with a grade you were given.Psychology 1315-010 Syllabus 3 E-mail UT-Arlington provides all students with an official UT-Arlington e-mail address. I will only communicate with you via e-mail using your UT-Arlington e-mail account. Messages relevant to the class will be posted on Blackboard. 1. Do not e-mail or call me to ask what materials will be or were missed in class. I strongly encourage you to get the e-mail address and/or telephone number of at least one other person in class. The syllabus clearly outlines class requirements, and regular notices will be posted on Blackboard. Make it a habit to refer to Blackboard regularly. 2. Do not e-mail or call me to inquire about test dates. The test dates are outlined in this syllabus. Changes, if any, will be posted on Blackboard and discussed in class. 3. Do not e-mail or call me asking to be bumped up to the next letter grade. I have made allowances for “borderline” grades, and you will have extra credit opportunities. 4. Do not e-mail me using poor communication (e.g., “hey,” text abbreviations, etc.). E-mail is a formal channel of communication. I expect you to identify yourself, use proper punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.
