The exams will cover the information in your textbook, as well as any topics discussed in class. Not everything in the textbook will be discussed in class, and not everything discussed in class will be in the textbook; this is why it is important for you to keep up with readings and attend each class session. A study guide will be provided prior to each exam. Each exam will consist of 50 multiple choice questions worth two points each. Students arriving after the scheduled class start time, on an exam date, will notbe allowed to take the exam after the first completed exam is turned in.Students taking all four exams will have their lowest exam grade dropped. Students with an average grade of “A” on the first three exams of the semester will not be required to take the fourth exam.Missed Exams & Quizzes: Makeup exams will be offered ONLY to students who can provide official documentation for their absence from an exam. Official documentation includes a doctor’s note in the case of illness or emergency, school documentation for a university approved absence, etc. Students should contact the instructor ASAP after the exam and provide documentation in a timely manner. Students who provide appropriate documentation for their absence will be allowed to make up the missed exam(s) during dead-week. Please note that work obligations ARE NOT excused absences. Please make appropriate arrangements now as opposed to waiting until the last minute. If you have any questions about this policy, see the instructor for clarification.Research Participation Requirement: Students enrolled in PSYC 1315 are required to complete research participation requirements. This requirement can be completed by participating in ongoing research projects at the University of Texas at Arlington, or by writing a series of papers. The requirement will be explained in full on the first day of class. Students who do not complete the requirements by the last day of class, August 4th, 2007, will receive a grade of “I” for the class. Points are NOT added to your total grade for the class for the completion of the research requirement.Course Evaluation & Final Grade: You will be given an opportunity to evaluate me as an instructor and the course as a whole during the last two weeks of class. You are given four exams, and I will drop the lowest exam score out of these four, provided that you take all four of the exams. Your grade will be an average of your highest three exam scores.Grading Format Weighting/Point Value of Assignments and Examinations: The grade for each exam will be the % correct of exam questions (A=90-100%, B=80-89%, C=70-79%, D-60-69%, F=0-59%). All exams are of equal weight. Rounding will be applied onlyfor the calculation of the course grade, not for each individual exam. For example, a course grade of 79.5 will be rounded to 80 for a course letter grade of B. A course grade of 79.4 will yield a letter grade of C.At my discretion, I will offer up to six extra credit points throughout the semester for in-class activities or homework assignments. If extra credit is assigned, it is up to the student to ensure that the assignment is completed correctly and on time.Americans With Disabilities ActThe University of Texas at Arlington is on record as being committed to both the spirit and letter of federal equal opportunity legislation; reference Public Law 92-112 - The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended.
