The mother, Dee Roberts, gets arrested from her work at a diner for what she thinks is for unpaid parking tickets. Dee has four girls her mother watches while she is at work. She was accused of selling Narcotics in a school zone and bail is set at $70,000. b. The father of the children came and took the children while Dee was in jail. Meanwhile a court appointed judge is assigned to her case. She is offered a plea bargain if she pleads guilty. c. While the father, Darrel, of the children offers the children a bad environment the grandmother tries to offer them a Christian lifestyle at church. The kids govisit there mother in jail and Dee contemplates whether to go to trial in 6 monthsand possibly go to jail for 15 years or take the plea bargain. d. The grandmother tries to start a petition saying the congregation has never seen her daughter Dee ever sell or do drugs. The church tries to assemble a group of lawyers to explain why the projects are getting targeted. The lawyers said that black people are targeted because the county with the most convictions get the most money so people are wrongfully arrested and scared into accepting plea bargains. e. The Texas law system says that all you have to do is accuse someone of breaking the law and they can be arrested and then are forced to make a plea bargain. So the lawyer from ACLU’s plan is to change the system because it is unfair and remove the current district attorney from office. f. The DA threatens to remove the plea bargain if Dee doesn’t take it and informs her they have officer witnesses, tapes of her selling, and an eye witness saying hebought drugs from Dee. g. The ACLU lawyer is trying to sue the government for the racial biased of the arrests that have been occurring in the projects and ask Sam Conroy to take the case. h. In December 2000, Dee’s mother posted bail for her and Dee returns to her children. When Dee tries returns to work her boss informs her she can’t fight with the DA so she can’t hire her back. Dee’s boss lovingly offers her money and Dee leaves.i. Mr. Conroy goes to discuss the case with David Cohen and Conroy says “he’d rather blow his head-off.” But eventually Conroy agrees and they want to sue the government in Dee Robert’s name. Dee agrees to help against her mother’s wishes. Conroy informs Dee that if she agrees to fight the DA he will come afer her harder than ever.j. Conroy relays a story to a friend about a time when he was younger and knew a white man had killed a black man and didn’t say anything. In the meantime Dee realizes the hardship of finding a job once you have been arrested.k. The conflict continues between Dee and her girl’s father because the father’s girlfriend is mean to the girls. Dee broke his car window in order to get her kids back from their dad and his girlfriend.l. Dee’s court appointed lawyer claims to have “lost” the tape of her selling
