You are going to use what you already know and combine that with some new information, and then you are going to get to write a letter to our President of the United States. I know you are going to love this unit because you will be able to use the computers almost everyday this week. Before we get started learning new information, I want us to take pre-assessment to see how much we already know. After we are finished with the unit we will take another assessment, called a post-assessment, and compare the two to see how much progress you have made.Modeling / PracticeIn order to be sure of getting a true measurement of student knowledge, teacher will not model or give practice before/during the pre-assessment.Assessment ActivityNow I would like for you to get out one piece of paper and your pencil. Okay, now turn your attention to the paper that (student) is handing out and notice that the sameinformation is on the overhead. Teacher will begin to explain prompts referring to overhead. These are the choices you will have to write from for your pre-assessment. Youcan write any one letter of your choice. Lets look at Prompt #1. Raise your hand and read this prompt aloud for the class. (student: will read prompt) Are there any prompts aboutwhat the prompt is asking you to do? (students: no) Teacher will re-iterate instructions if needed, but will not “teach” material. Teacher will continue having a volunteer to read prompts and answer questions if necessary.
