Inner causes of aggression. Current LectureII. Aggression.a. Is any form of behavior that is intended to harm/injure someone who is motivated to avoid the harmb. Types-i. Hostile: sole goal is to cause injury/death to the victim, aggression for it’s own sake, not to obtain something of value ii. Instrumental: premeditated, intentional use of harmful behavior to achieve some other goal, obtain something of value. III. Aggression: nature or nurturea. Social psychologist view is that is it caused by both.i. Nurture view- instinct theories: aggression is an innate tendency to seek aparticular goal. 1. Babies do when someone/thing is by their face the swat at the thing to make it go away.IV. Is aggression learned?a. Social learning theory i. Aggression sometimes directly reinforced 1. Ex. Little kids watching boxing match with parent. Parent cheers on and the child then see that aggression could lead to their parent being happy.b. Observational learningi. “modeling”: watching and imitate; does not require direct reinforcement. ii. Observed behaviors more likely to be done.
