How is current social media becoming MORE “social” than traditional social media?Outline of Current LectureIV. Workshop Day: Reflection on Social Media UseCurrent Lecture Social media is loosely expressed as the digital technologies that connect people or ideas.  Types of social medias include:- Email- Discussion Boards/Web Forums- Chat Rooms- Blogs (such as The Huffington Post)- Microblogs (such as Tumblr or Twitter)Reflect on the types of social medias that you use. Within these social medias, create a log ofthe last few posts that have been made and discuss WHY you wanted to curate that moment.Possible benefits of social media include:- The 5 C’s (defined in Lecture 2)- “Agenda setting”: when topics are covered by media and then become major topics of discussion among the community- Share and distribute ideas more efficiently and effectively through instantposting and communication- More control and better access of the media that individuals want to view- Sharing has gone beyond primarily text posts: now include pictures, videos, etc.Possible drawbacks of social media include:These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.- More choice of the media to view does not imply better quality- Ability to exploit positive or negative reputations- “Scrolling”: the act of people attempting to monopolize a social media site by posting numerous posts of the same of different topic.- The line between facts and opinions can often be misinterpreted These benefits and drawbacks can have effects on all types of relationships, including those of friends and families. Reflect on how social media has affected your relationships or if you don’t use social media address why you don’t.
