Data Mining When advertising companies and websites can look at your ‘cookies’ on your computer, which can give such companies information about what you have been looking at on other websites -These are the small advertisements that you see on other websites advertising things that you have looked at previously- In the early web, before Web 2.0, they used what are called channels: Network communication channels in which messages flow through quickly-Such channels have very little constriction and limitation on the text in the communicationEx) Email- The current web uses what is a main characteristic of Web 2.0, a platform: consists of specific interactions that coders can compute in order to enhance such interactions.- -Such as Facebook or Twitter, we interaction with one another in a certain way such as “friending” someone and coders take this interaction and make it a specific code that can beshared in a specific way and these social media sites gain information.- These types of media are free because they can sell all this information to companies in order for further advertising - Companies can also pay social media sites and websites to advertise their company-Ex) Companies pay twitter money to promote certain trends, which they use as an advertising opportunity.VI. Twitter: Choice and LongtailThe longtail is used to describe and illustrate the strategy that entails popularity ranking (further explanation is found in the chapter The Long Tail in The Social Media Reader).- One of the main things that made Twitter popular was the wide array of choices and the lack of pressure to follow other popular accounts, such as Taylor Swift.These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute. ESOC 150 1st Edition- Following whom you want on Twitter gave people the ability to customize their account and allow for more conversation between the user and the smaller folks that one follows. - Twitter’s new promotions, such as allowing companies to promote trends or their new user set up, has taken away from the Web 2.0 strategies, including the longtail, by influencing users to follow more popular accounts.- When people follow more popular accounts it decreases the engagement and takes away from their choice.Main question that remains is whether or not Twitter is moving away from their main trajectory as they continue this trend. This is what the following paper will be partly concerning.VII.
