Attaches to the bottom of the sternum, lower 6 ribs, and upper lumbar vertebrae and attaches inwardly toward the central tendonii. pulls the central tendon downward and forward (pushes out the abdomen wall)iii. lifts the lower ribs (this enlarges the ribcage wall) B. Sternocleidomastoid: i. runs from sternum and clavicle to temporal bone behind ear ii. Can lift ribs by force transmitted via sternum and clavicle iii. Back muscleC. External Intercostals: 11 muscles located between ribs III. Muscles of ExpirationA. Internal Intercostals i. pulls downward on rib cage wall ii. Portion between cartilages pulls upward on rib cage wall IV. Pleural Linkage: i. chest wall and pulmonary apparatus linked together by pleural membranes ii. The pleura have a thin layer of liquid that keeps them linked iii. When the chest wall moves, the pulmonary apparatus moves with itV. Spinal Nerves: i. C2-C8: Accessory (neck)ii.
