Page 1 of 3 (Syllabus for MTH 095: Basic Mathematics) Syllabus for MTH 095. 01 Basic Mathematics Instructor: Mrs. Babette Dickelman Contact Information: [email protected] or call JCC, ask for McDivitt Hall Main Office and request that a message be placed in my mailbox. I will return phone calls as soon as possible. If you have questions or concerns, please let me know. We will spend some time discussing test anxiety and test-taking skills as those facets of education are often a concern for students. If you do not attend class, repeatedly arrive late or leave early, and/or do not do well on your quizzes and exams, and do not talk with me, I will assume you are not interested in succeeding in the class. Grades for the class will be posted in JetNet, which you may access by clicking on “Online Classes” on the JCC Home Site and following instructions. Calculators are not used in this class. MyMathLab is required for this class. All homework and quizzes will be taken using this program. Purchase may be made either at the JCC Bookstore or on line as indicated in instructions on last pages of syllabus. If you choose to buy a textbook (not required for this section), other MTH 095 classes use Basic College Mathematics: Third Edition by Elayn Martin-Gay 1► Course Outcomes: Students will be able to do: - Compute basic arithmetic operations with whole numbers. - Compute basic arithmetic operations with fractions. - Compute basic arithmetic operations with decimals. - Demonstrate a basic understanding of metric measurement. - Compute basic arithmetic operations with signed numbers Note: This course does NOT count toward degree requirements at JCC. In order to foster a collegiate environment, maintain the integrity of student grades, and provide for proper student placement and advancement through sequenced courses, the department believes this to be in the best interests of both students and faculty. Extra credit is understood to include bonus points on a test or assignment, separate extra credit assignments, and other forms of providing opportunities for more than 100% credit.” Exams: If you must miss a test, contact me before the test is returned to the class to make arrangements for a make-up. Once a test is returned to the class, no make-up test will be given. See Class Calendar for dates of exams and the primary focus of each one.
