If you use another e-mail account and wouldprefer I send information to it, please give it to me.1► Course Outcomes: Students will be able to do:-Compute basic arithmetic operations with whole numbers.-Compute basic arithmetic operations with fractions.-Compute basic arithmetic operations with decimals.-Demonstrate a basic understanding of metric measurement.-Compute basic arithmetic operations with signed numbersNote: This course doesNOTcount toward degree requirements at JCC.The Board of Trustees has determined that all JCC graduates should develop or enhance certain essential skillswhile enrolled in the college.ADO 3(Computational skills and understanding appropriate to the program ofstudy) is the primary outcome of this course.2► Course Topics and Assigned HomeworkSee Class Calendar for timeline of topics covered, exams andfinal.To help you learn it is recommended that youread the textbookbefore the class on a particular subject,work through the examples,attend class regularly,participate in class discussions,do assignmentsbefore the class on a particular subject,andform a study group with other students in the class.3► Course Requirements and Grading System–based on 1000 pointsRequirementsPercent of GradeExams**: Five exams.You maynotusenotes or calculator. Extracredit is understood to include bonus points on a test or assignment, separate extra creditassignments, and other forms of providing opportunities for more than 100% credit.”Exams**: If you must miss a test, contact mebefore the test is given in classto make arrangementsfor a make-up. Once a test is returned, no make-uptest will be given. See Class Calendar for datesof exams and the primary focus of each one. Please note that revisions to the Class Calendar may benecessary because of unforeseen circumstances. Please notify me immediately if youare unable to be at an exam. Once a test is returned, no make-up test will be given.Homework is dueper the course calendar schedule. Itis the ethical behavior that includes producing their own work and not representing others’ theirown, either by plagiarism, by cheating or by helping others to do so.Faculty members whosuspect a student of academic dishonesty may penalize the student byassigning a failing gradefor the paper, project, report, exam or the course itself.-Audits:Must be registered during the first week of class. You will not receive a grade or credit forthe course.-Withdraw deadlinefor this semestercan be found on the JCC website in the AcademicCalendar.If you do not wish to complete the class and receive a grade, because you are notPage3of3(Syllabus for MTH 095: Basic Mathematics)happy with your grade or for any other reason, you must withdraw by this date.With theuse oftheparticipation grading system, the instructor cannot withdraw you after the eighth week.-Incompleteswill be given only in accordance with JCC policy. (Excerpt from JCC policy;contactStudent Servicesfor a copy of theStudent Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.) A student mayrequest an incomplete from the instructor. The incomplete will be granted only if the student canprovide documentation that his or her work up to that point is sufficient in quality, but lacking inquantity, due to circumstances beyond the student’s control. Furthermore, a written plan formaking up the missing work within one semester must be completed by the student.
