It is important to attend class regularly to be sure you are up to date on these revisions. Course Requirements and Grading System Requirements Percent of Grade Exams: Four exams 15% each. You may use no notes and no calculator. Tests will be cumulative with some review problems from previous chapters. 60% Final Exam: You may use no notes and no calculator. 20% Homework 20%Exams: If you must miss a test, you are required to contact me before the test is given in class to arrange for a make-up. All homework will be assigned and completed using My Math Lab. The My Math Lab program requires a high-speed Internet connection. If you do not have this capability at home, you can utilize any public computer on campus to complete your assignments. You will receive a homework grade for each section by doing the homework problems listed in My Math Lab. You will receive immediate feedback when you do the problems. My Math Lab will grade it, and allow you to view correct solutions if you miss a problem. You can redo any homework assignment at your discretion. This means if you are not satisfied with your understanding of the material or your grade on an assignment, you may ask My Math Lab for new homework problems to complete. Your grade will be updated to reflect your performance on the new problems. You may do the assignment as many times as you like until you understand the material and are satisfied with your grade. To help you learn it is recommended that you b read the textbook b work through the examples b attend class regularly b participate in class discussions b do all homework assignments b form a study group with other students in the class. About extra credit….The mathematics department strongly recommends that extra credit not be offered in mathematics courses. In order to foster a collegiate environment, maintain the integrity of student grades, and provide for proper student placement and advancement through sequenced courses, the department believes this to be in the best interests of both students and faculty.Grading Scale Percentage [Grade] 90-100% [4.0] . . . 85-89% [3.5] . . . 80-84% [3.0] . . . 75-79% [2.5] 70-74% [2.0] . . . 65-69% [1.5] . . . 60-64% [1.0] . . . 55-59% [0.5] . . . ≤54% [0.0] Late Work Policy  Exams are to be taken during class on the scheduled day at the announced time. Available Help Education is a self-initiated, goal-directed process. You as the student are held accountable for your own learning. The instructor is a facilitator and resource person who will assist you in this process. If you recognize that you need additional help, you have a number of options. The most important thing about getting help is to do it as soon as you feel like you are falling behind. The quicker you seek help, the more likely it is that you will be successful. Here are the places to look for help: Your instructor: Please make use of your instructor. I will generally be available 1/2 hour prior to class, and can always be contacted via email at [email protected]. Center for Student Success: Located in 125 Walker Hall, the Center is staffed with student tutors and provides walk-in math tutoring and other services. This is a very helpful resource for struggling students. Call the Center at 796-8415 for more information. Math Lab: Located in JM 245, the lab is staffed with professional mathematicians who serve as tutors. The lab operates on a walk-in basis. Online help: My Math Lab has many helpful features, such as video lectures, step-by-step help showing how to solve homework problems, and animations and videos showing problem solutions. Use them! Special Assistance: Students requiring special assistance (including those affected by the Americans with Disabilities Act) should contact the Center for Student Success. This is the first step in acquiring the appropriate accommodations to facilitate your learning.Intermediate Grading To comply with college policy and federal regulations, I am to assign a grade to you three times during the semester. You are assigned one of three grades: H, Q, or V.
