NATURAL DISASTERS C. VALENTICase Study Photo Album Assignment DirectionsThe case study photo album assignment should cover a current or ongoing natural disaster event (e.g., the 2010 Haiti Earthquake, 2011 Hurricane Irene, the 2011 Japanese Earthquake/Tsunami) with the main goal of educating the reader about the scientific causes of the natural disaster event and the impact the natural disaster event inflicted on humanity. The case study photo album assignment is designed to replace a ‘term paper’ project. It is worth 10% of your grade for this course. You will be graded on the content provided in your project (Introduction, Body covering all aspects of the disaster event being discussed, and conclusion) and the criteria on setting up the album (i.e., pictures with captions, correct citations of text and pictures, references, correct grammar and spelling, correct format, etc.) Basically I want you to tell the story of a specific natural disaster event with pictures. The Assignment must be uploaded through the Case Study Photo Album Assignment tool as a word document with pictures embedded. The Format Should be as Follows:Introduction and PurposeThe brief introduction should ENGAGE the reader to continue. Think about the reason you chose your particular natural disaster in the first place. Something about it peaked your interest. This is a good starting point. Use the writing skills you learned in your English or writing courses—or any course that you’ve had to write a paper in! BodyThe body content of your paper should be informative, accurate and cited correctly JUST AS YOU WOULD A TYPED RESEARCH PAPER. Be sure to avoid plagiarism! If you are citing a book or article, use the following format (Valenti, 2005) and for a web site (Name of webpage or article, Host of webpage), for example, (How volcanoes are formed, U.S. Geological Survey). See citing references in the reference section. Website addresses should be listed in the reference section. The Body of the paper should include the following information:- A explanation of the scientific causes of the natural disaster.- A description of the event.- The impact of the event on humans and property. - Any precursor events. - The relevance of hazard prediction and/or mitigation. I hate to assign ‘lengths’ to papers or presentations because some people can write a concise, well informative statement in less words. As a reference point, provide enough body to fill a 2-3 page paper (without pictures) double spaced. Avoid unnecessary verbiage. I want to read concise, informative papers. This should NOT be a full length research paper.Photos and ImagesYou must provide at least 15-20 images relating to your topic. Some images should be referenced in the body of your pages (i.e. seen to the left is an image of the pyroclastic flow as it descended down the eastern flank of the volcano (—provide citation)) and all pictures/images should be provided with a caption describing its content and cited. SummaryThe conclusion should provide a brief statement of summary of the content of your paper and a good conclusion statement.References – Works Cited PageYou will need to use a minimum of four resources—two must be websites, two must be printed information such as textbooks, journal articles or newspaper articles (Use of digital versions of journals or reputable newspapers will count toward a printed source). Provide a reference section at the end. You can use the following formats. Credit must be cited for ANY information taken from textbooks and off the internet including images, content, etc. For WebsitesNATURAL DISASTERS C.
