PSYC 210CHAPTER 19 NOTESDevelopmental TasksHavighurst's Developmental Tasks (Ages 20-40)- Courting and selecting a mate. - Learning to live happily with one's partner. - Starting a family and assuming a parental role. - Rearing of children. - Management of the home. - Beginning career or occupation. - Assuming appropriate civic responsibilities - Establishing a social network. - Finishing one's education.Many theorists see affiliation and achievement to be the major tasks.- Maslow would say the tasks are ---love/belonging and success/esteem. - Freud would say the tasks are -- love and work. - Erikson would say-- intimacy versus isolation and generativity versus stagnation.Keep in mind that our culture can set timetables of expectations when stages should be met.
