I tend to pay close attention to writing enjoyable notes to review so as I am typing in class I often insert pictures from tv shows or movies that link with what we are talking about in class or if you show the class a clip I will google the study and insert a picture from the study as best I can I am a very visual learner so this helps a lot I usually read all of the chapters about two days before the test to refresh my memory Because of the memory chapter saying something about how testing yourself was a more reliable way to memorize things than simply rereading chapters for this past test the night before I made flash cards of all of the bold words in the book s chapters that we covered and went through them both backwards and forwards setting aside the ones that I missed until I went through them all correctly I also took all of the chapter tests in the back of each chapter This was a different technique than the first test where I just reread the notes and chapters several times but I feel that I definitely remembered the information better and it was more enjoyable and less time consuming that way I study a good amount to prepare for your exams I start my studying on the Saturday before the exam for about one to two hours I will repeat this on Sunday and Monday Fortunately your class is my first of the day on Tuesday I will study from the time I wake up until it is time to take exams My studying consists of writing myself a study guide I will use my notes from lecture to get main points and examples you gave us in class From there I will go through the book and write down the vocabulary that you did not mention to us in class I try to have this study guide complete by Monday night or early Tuesday morning I also take the concept quizzes at the end of each chapter I do this to see what I need to study more I have also bought the study guide for the book at MSC bookstore It has three extra quizzes for each chapter along with other activities I find useful for preparing for the exam The way the exams have been designed there are really only two things a student must do 1 Go to class and either type up write down or take a picture of the slides we go over 2 Read the chapters assigned in the book The first not only gives you the 5 bonus points for the class it gives you a general idea of the material in the chapters as well as the specific cases that will be referred to in the test Sometimes these cases are in the book sometimes they are not The second is as important if not more important than the first Many of the questions come directly from the book and are not common sense There is no other way to learn the information if you don t read the book In order to prepare for the exam I check out the book the day before the test read for about 3 4 hours mostly scanning the passages for definitions and reinforcing topics discussed in class Then on the day of the test I spend about 45 minutes reading the slide notes from previous classes As long as you at least half way paid attention in class and read and understood the definitions from the book you should be able to work out most of the problems because the answer choices are representative of the definitions Before every lecture I always make flashcards with terms scientists experiments and other pertinent facts from the chapter Since the chapters tend to be lengthy I split it up over the week but every weekend I always make sure I ve done all flashcards for the chapters that we covered in lecture for the week I also take notes during your lectures make sure that I sit in the front and avoid checking my phone About a week prior to the exam I review a chapter set of flashcards a day Since I m a morning person and learn things best then I always wake up around 6 and study the flashcards for 1 2 hours When I study them I verbally repeat what I wrote till it s stuck in my mind Every following day I always review the chapter set of flashcards that I studied before so I can retain the information By the weekend I feel ready for the exam and use Monday Tuesday to just review all my flashcards and lecture notes For my lecture notes flashcards I always use colored pens I m not sure what it is but there s something about looking at a page full of color than just dull black ink notes that makes me more attentive and really helps me be organized I never type my notes because being on the computer can itself be distracting and I think writing helps me remember things better For the review sessions in class I always take pictures of the sample questions and test myself over the weekend just to remind myself of what format to expect and to see if I m ready That s pretty much it I d say I devote about an hour 4 days a week to making the cards from the book attend lecture and take notes and then just study 1 2 hours every day for the week prior to the exam and it works great It s not too bad as long as I keep up with it The base of my learning and one of the most important aspects of my studying is reading the chapter before I get to class for the lecture This takes time and may seem futile when you are going to lecture on the same material but it makes the material so much more personal and memorable when you read it and hear it close together in time A practice that I find very helpful is reading through all my notes on Friday and then also on Sunday just to keep that information fresh in my mind Just before the test I definitely pick up my study habits and study for about three hours each the two nights before the test This study time is committed to one read through of the notes followed by a read through of the notes one more time and this time I make a cheat sheet as if I were to get to use it on the exam So I short hand the information and get it all on one sheet of paper This is a sheet of info that I just can t remember from one read through to the next or tougher concepts or information that is definitely going to be on the test This sheet is crucial because the day of this is all I study It is tempting to try and cram …
