1 Homer makes the fight against the river the main focus of Achilles return to battle because of how Achilles was feeling after Patroclus died He wanted to avenge himself for his friend through acts of vengeance Achilles rage because of Patroclus death is what disturbed the river god and began the fight 2 The Iliad ends with the funeral and burial of Hector because it shows an alteration in Achilles behaviors After all of his rage and destruction with the funeral Achilles reaches a moment of peace The funeral creates a good note to end on because it shows the extreme change in the mood of the poem all around Homer excluded the Trojan Horse episode because Hector s death was a bigger emotional turning point at the end of the war
