Lecture 2 General Theoretical Perspectives Social learning behaviorism Learning theory o Organism are designed to seek pleasure and avoid pain Pleasure biological psychological needs Biological food water sleep sex Psychological needs companionship need to feel successful pain detrimental to your well being o behavior determined by experience with outcome you only do things if you have experienced pleasure to do so or you stop do something because of pain pretty radical that means that you don t think about things need to talk about REWARDS and replsenishments B F Skinner strict behaviorist Behavior is shaped by controlling its environment Pecked he pecked it turn he turned He was rewarded if he did specific actions Act randomly and if you are reinforced or punished for then you continue to do so or you stop doing so When you pull a lever you like that the money is coming out of the machine you have no real choices o Some species can learn by observation PEOPLE JUST ACT AND GET REWARDED OR REPLENISHED Social cognitive o Thought and behavior are guided by Beliefs Attitudes Expectations Goals Memory o Ex one of my goals in life based on my belief that fuzzy things keep my feet warm therefore I will put on those fuzzy shoes and make my feet warm o Preplan those actions making plans about stuff thinking things through making goals for yourself
