kendallhunt com allred i clicker or i clicker 2 sold separately o Starting Monday September 14th all pop quizzes will be taken using i clicker Learning Outcomes 1 Describe basic science and functions of carbohydrates lipids proteins vitamins minerals and water 2 Summarize the basic physiology and biochemistry of digestion absorption and metabolism of nutrients 3 Identify sources of nutrients and list major consequences associated with deficiencies and toxicities of specific nutrients 4 Discuss the Dietary Reference Intakes DRIs MyPlate and interpret food labeling to accurately select individual food products and combinations to meet the DRIs and MyPlate guidelines 5 Describe issues of nutrition throughout the lifecycle 6 Discuss the impact of diet and lifestyle on weight management and the consequences of being at an unhealthy weight 7 Based on DRIs and MyPlate evaluate and determine personal dietary adequacies and inadequacies and formulate strategies to improve 5 Pop quizzes 5 points each Total 341 F Grading You earn your grades so please do not ask for a change of grade unless an obvious calculation error has occurred Exams Tests will be taken on Scantron which will be provided for you No graphing calculators cell phones PDAs MP3 players or other electronic devices as well as head or earphones are allowed to be out during exams If you are found to have a phone or other electronic device anywhere out meaning anywhere else except your backpack book bag purse during an exam you will receive a grade of 0 for that exam There will be no exceptions to this rule Dates of exams are listed in this syllabus If it becomes necessary to change the date of an exam you will be given adequate notice of this date change by an announcement of the change during class and via email Attendence As stated in Student Rules 7 on attendance http student rules tamu edu rule07 The University views class attendance as an individual student responsibility Students are expected to attend class and to complete all assignments Attendance is not part of your final grade however you will be responsible for any information you may have missed on days you are absent even if the absence is excused You will also not be allowed to make up any missed pop quizzes Make up for Exam Make up exams will be given only in the event of a University authorized absence If it becomes necessary to miss an exam you will need to arrange an alternate date with me to make up that exam Proper documentation within the described time frame per section 7 3 of Rule 7 of the absence is required for all make up exams I require a copy of your note signed by your doctor or other health professional confirming your illness and inability to attend class the day of the exam I will not accept the Explanatory Statement for Absence from Class form that is available from the A M website unless is it signed by a physician Proof of other University Authorized absences will be required University sponsored and authorized activities are posted at http studentactivities tamu edu online sponsauth Make up exams cover the same topics and learning objectives as those covered on the respective original exam however it will be in a different format including fill in the blank multiple choice and or short answer questions Make up exams must be completed prior to the subsequent exam Viewing previous exams Exams will not be returned to you However you will have the opportunity to view the key to the exam with your TA or you may view your exam with your scantron with me You will not be allowed to copy photograph or scan your exam You can view the key or your scantron only until the date of the next exam For example you will be allowed to view your exam and scantron for Exam 1 until the date for Exam 2 Following Exam 2 you will not be able to view your Exam 1 information Pop Quizzes Pop quizzes will be given in class throughout the semester and taken using i clicker As the name indicates these are unannounced quizzes and are an excellent tool for both you and me Points towards your final grade will include points received from these quizzes Please note there will be no make up for a pop quiz should you miss one The grade distribution is based on 5 pop quizzes however you will have more than 5 chances to take these 5 pop quizzes throughout the semester Your pop quiz grade will be posted soon after the quiz takes place in class You are responsible for letting me know if your pop quiz grade is not found on eCampus within 2 weeks following the pop quiz Please see the information below in the section on eCampus Diet Analysis Project You have one major assignment in this class the diet analysis project You are responsible for completing and submitting this project on time Any project turned in beyond the due date will be deducted 10 points for each day beyond the due date it is turned in or completed In the event an illness or other University authorized excuse prevents you from completing this assignment by the due date appropriate documentation see Make up for Exam section must be submitted however this assignment must be submitted on the day following the end of your excused absence Instructor communication Announcements lecture notes and grades will be posted on eCampus found at ecampus tamu edu You are responsible for monitoring eCampus and your email for announcements that may affect the class schedule lecture notes change of exam date or anything else related to this class Furthermore your
