Arnold Schoenberg (1874 – 1951) was an Austrian composer and painter, who later moved to the United States in 1934. i. Focused on creating new horizons in music.ii. Fascinated with impressive technique.b. Schoenberg’s early music sounded similar to Wagner’s compositions.c. Later on, however, Schoenberg began the movement away from all sense of tonality and directionality in music. i. He believed this was the next necessary step in music.ii.
