Music of the Classical Period can be compared to building with Legos…small, simple pieces and basic building blocks are used, however, they can be arranged ina complex and complicated manner. b. Castrato- a male classical voice type equivalent to the range of a soprano or mezzo-soprano. i. To create the voice type of a male castrato, male voices were altered before puberty. ii. The last known castrato voice was recorded in 1902. iii. Today, male castrato voice parts are sung by a contralto, or a female soprano or mezzo-soprano. The operation is no longer performed.II. Sonata Forma. With Haydn, we begin to use the term and format of what we now refer to as Sonata Form.i. Sonata Form- Exposition Development Recapitulationll: A: I - B: V - V :ll: V ~ A: I - B:I :ll1.
