How are Haydn and Mozart composers with different compositional styles?a. Monothematism- one themed-nessi. Haydn uses monothematism constantly as a compositional technique in hisworks.b. Mozart is famous for dramatizing points of arrival and new harmonic moments with new themes.i. With Mozart, everything is drama, similar to the drama of his operas. ii. Through this drama, Mozart is able to capture the emotions of different characters simultaneously through the different writing and compositional styles he uses in the singers’ lines. 1. This is clearly displayed in his opera, Don Giovanni. II. Mozart’s Unique Compositional Stylea. Mozart combines galant style with the learned style.i. Galant style- big cadential markings marking distinct sectionsii. Learned style- dramatic counterpoint from the Baroque Period (similar to the writing style of J.S. Bach)b. Sturm und Drang- German for “storm and stress”; the technique of frequently altering between cheerful, songlike themes and minor-mode, turbulent or dramatic transitional and developmental sections. c.
