Dimensions of the canvas are 28 ¾ X 36 ¼ inches.VII. The painting is a riot of brushwork with many rail-like strokes of intense color used in thepainting.VIII. Van Gogh’s brushwork is immediate, expressive, and intense. IX. During the time when Van Gogh made this painting he was in an insane asylum and was going mad and wanting to hurt himself because he was going through many psychotic episodes and psychological crisis. After Starry Night was finished Van Gogh Committed suicide the next year in 1890. 2. Post-Impressionism: a term coined by English critic Roger Fry, it is meant to describe a diversegroup of painters whose work he had collected for an exhibition. He acknowledged that these artists did not share a unified style or approach to art, but they all used Impressionism as a springboard for their individual expressions of modernity in art.
