Area’s of Physical TherapyIV.Job DescriptionCurrent LectureReceived her Bachelor for Physical Therapy. Enjoyed out patient orthopedics. Also questioned why. Went back to school to UW- Milwaukee and got her Masters in Biomechanics Engineering. Ended with A PhD in Neuroscience. Studied monkeys and how they move. She works with functional MRI to see what part of the brain is active when moving or thinking.APTA Mission Statement: “The physical therapy profession will transform society by optimizing movement for all people of all ages to improve the human experience.” The profession works with all different type of people on every spectrum. The definition of Physical Therapy includes being a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy and being a provider of choice for issues involving movement dysfunction or enhancement. Direct access is going straight to a PT after being injured. Only 39 to 50 states have direct access. Types of doctors: Medical, pharmacy, podiatry, chiropractic, dentistry, veterinarian, and optometrist.Inpatient: 32% of Physical Therapy doctors work in the hospital at inpatient making sure patients can go home okay. They are post surgical. Their goal is to improve health for discharge. Outpatient: 37% of Physical Therapy doctors work in at outpatient offices. These doctors focus on fracture and overuse rehab. This can help advocate patients in the work setting. Doctors whowork in the outpatient center of the hospital work with orthopedic and neurological issues, women recovering from labor, and balance/vestibular. Sports Medicine/Fitness: Work with adult and adolescents. Focus on orthopedic and overuse injuries. Also can work toward performance enhancement for athletes and teams. These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.Early Intervention: Working with children under the age of 3. This is a result of developmental issues. Can be based in the homes or daycares. These doctors have the challenge of being creative because children need to have fun while in therapy in order for it to be beneficial.School System: 3.6% of Physical Therapy doctors. Help with different types of developmental issues.Skilled Nursing Facilities: 5.1% of Physical Therapy doctors. These doctors work with older adults. They focus on a variety of orthopedic and neurological diagnoses such as joint replacement, factures, and neurologic insults. It can be short term or long term. They aim for functional ability. Home Health/Day Services: 6.8% of Physical Therapy doctors. Working with older adults at home visits. The patients generally are not able to leave their homes. They focus on functional ability for disabled adults.Research and Academics: 9.6% of Physical Therapy doctors. This requires a PhD and integrates teaching and research track. Unique Niches. Specialty practice can include water aerobics for animals or people, improve athletes, and help the disabled. Physical Therapy Job Description: Assist those to help them want to improve. Being a teacher to patients to guide them to their goals. Always ask questions based on different patients, the therapist themselves, and the science of Physical Therapy. Give the patient contexts and be creative. Improve the human experience to benefit all subjects.
