Got injured at 16. Had reconstruction surgery in her ankle. Stopped skating. Went to California for school. Started track and field. Went back to Finland. Started coaching skaters. Enjoyed sports Psychology. Found it useful when teaching synchronized skating. Quit her job and decided to study sports Psychology. Moved to England. Came back to America. Found a new interest in swimming. Qualified as a Chartered Psychologist, but not in the US, only the UK. It is important to know what to call yourself. Why is Sports Psychology important?When one person works with another person, psychology is important to communicate correctly. When attending PT, patients are there for a reason. Professionals are trying to get them to change behavior; therefore, psychology is very important. Sport and ExerciseSport is a type of physical activity that involves competition. Exercise is a type of physical activitythat can overlap sports but can also not be competition. Play is a type of physical activity that can overlap both but can also be a subconscious form of physical activity. GuidelinesAges 5-17 should have at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity daily. Adults should have 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity daily. These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.Amounts of physical activity greater than 60 minutes provide additional health benefits. Most ofthe daily physical activity should be aerobic. What is Sport Psychology?It is the scientific study of the psychological factors that are associated with participation and performance in sport, exercise, and other types of physical activity. It is not just about how we behave but also how we think and feel. It is mix of behaviors, thoughts, and emotions. All work together interchangeably. Two main purposes:1. Help individuals use psychological principles to achieve optimal mental health and to improveperformance. 2. Understand how participation in sport, exercise and physical activity affects an individual’s psychological development, health and well-being throughout the lifespan. Divided into two areas:1. The individual: everyone has their own reasons for wanting to guided and each person has different influences. This involves personality, motivation, self-confidence, stress, arousal and anxiety.2. The environment: each places has a different climate and how the to appropriately get physical activity.
