Went to Ithaca College in New York for 3.5 years and played football there. Also coached the team after. He volunteered and did internships throughout the years. Observed a lot of his previous known coaches from college and playing football. Worked with a variety of athletes. Went to UWM for his Masters. Worked for Athlete Performance Company. Started his own company called Type A Athletics. What is Strength and Conditioning Coaching? It is applied performance-based coaching and training. “Strength coaches design weight training programs and cardiovascular conditioning programs based on the demands inherent to specific sports and the specific needs of individual athletes.” Roles:Based on performance: Strength building, YTP planning, conditioning, speed and agility, and balance/functional training. Based on Psychology: Motivation, build rapport, social support, and reinforcement. Where can you find strength coaches? Private Practice, NCAA D1 D2 and D3, professional sports, national/world cup, occupational athletes (ie. Firemen, policemen, etc.), and corporate fitness. How do you become a strength and conditioning coach? Each qualification depends on the level of sport. Bachelor’s, Masters, and/or PhD. Certifications: NSCA CPT, NSCA CSCS, NSCA TSAC-F, ACSM CPT, State Laws. These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
