MA 15200 FINAL EXAM Memo Thursday, August 4, 1:00 PM (2 Hour Exam) Location: WTHR 160 ** Bring your Purdue ID, appropriate calculator, and pencils/erasers with you to the final exam. ** Arrive 10 minutes early in order to find your seat. ** Know the calculator policy. Students can only use a TI 30-XA calculator. No other scientific calculator, graphing calculator, or programmable calculator will be allowed. Cell phones cannot be used for a calculator (in fact, cell phones must be put away and turned off). If a student does not bring their own appropriate calculator, they may have to take the exam without a calculator. No sharing of calculators is allowed. 1) Every student has an assigned seat in WTHR 160. Please know your seat when you arrive. If you do not know your seat prior to the exam, please email James Chagdes at [email protected]. Attendance will be taken. 2) The final exam is cumulative (comprehensive) and covers every lesson and all topics or types of problems covered during the semester. 3) There are 30 multiple-choice problems on the exam. No partial credit will be given. Double check answers before turning in your exam. Exams are kept. 4) The exam is twice as long as regular exams, 120 minutes. 5) The exam is self-explanatory. No questions will be allowed unless a student believes there is a typographical or printing error. 6) The following are appropriate review problems. • The PRACTICE QUESTIONS FOR THE FINAL found on the course web page (www.math.purdue.edu/ma15200) under ‘resources. Answers are provided on the last page of these questions. • All of the old exams; those on the webpage and those used this semester. • Any of the homework problems. I would recommend looking at every homework problem from this semester. • Any of the quiz problems. 7) Students need to know the formulas for the perimeter and area of a rectangle or triangle, the distance formula (d = rt), the slope formula, point-slope form, slope-intercept form, general form, the simple interest formula ( I = prt), and the midpoint formula.8) There is a formula sheet that will be provided for you on the final exam. These formulas are posted on the MA 15200 web page: ww.math.purdue.edu/ma15200. Additionally, any formulas from applied problems using logarithmic or exponential expressions that are needed will be provided on the exam. 8) Students arriving after 45 minutes will be allowed to take the make-up (alternate) final. If they arrived late for a non-valid reason, a grade penalty will be applied. 9) Students who have another exam scheduled at the same time as this exam or students who have three (or more) final exams scheduled on that day, may request to take the alternate final exam. You must see the James Chagdes at least by Monday, August 1 to verify the conflict or schedule, so that he can schedule the alternate for you. 10) You may only use a TI-30XA scientific calculator on this exam. Calculators will be checked. If you bring a two-line scientific calculator, a graphing or programmable calculator, or forget to bring a calculator; you may have to take the exam without a calculator! For non-valid reasons, a make-up may be allowed with a grade penalty. Not knowing the right date, time, or location of an exam is NOT a valid reason for missing it. REMINDER: NO scrap paper or books are allowed on this
