MA 15200 Exam 2 Memo Exam 2 6:30 P.M. Thursday, October 23, 2008 LOCATION: ELLIOTT HALL OF MUSIC 1) Exam 1 covers sections 1.2 (part 2), 1.3-1.8, and 2.1-2.4. This is the material covered in lessons #12-22. 2) There are fifteen multiple-choice problems on the exam. The exam will be machine graded. No partial credit will be given. You will be allowed 60 minutes to take the exam. 3) The exam is self-explanatory. No questions will be allowed unless a student believes there is a typographical or printing error. 4) The following are appropriate review problems. These problems are found in the textbook in the chapter summary review exercises section at the end of chapters 1 and 2. The answers are provided at the back of the book. • Page 157 (Chapter 1 Review Problems): 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 27, 31, 33, 34, 37-40 all, 42, 43, 45, 46, 49, 51, 53, 58, 60, 62, 67, 68, 69, 80-83 all • Page 233 (Chapter 2 Review Problems): 2, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14-16 all, 21, 25, 29-32 all, 33, 36-39 all, 43-45 all, 47, 48, 50-52 all There is also a chapter test at the end of each chapter. You may practice some of those problems as well. The answers are in the back of the book. It is recommended that you re-work all homework problems. You cannot re-do the online problems once the due date has passed. However, you can work the corresponding problems from the textbook. 5) Students need to know the formulas for the perimeter and area of a rectangle or square, the area of a triangle, the sum of the angles in a triangle, the distance formula ( )d rt=, the simple interest formula ( )I Prt=, the midpoint formula, the slope formula, point-slope form, slope-intercept form, and general form. Any other formulas will be provided, including the quadratic formula and the distance between two points formula. 6) Exams from previous semesters are available on the web page. These are good for review purposes, but not a guarantee of what will or will not be on the exam. Do not use these past exams as your only means of studying. Review homework problems and quiz problems. 7) Students must bring a PHOTO ID with them to the exam, preferably your Purdue ID. It is recommended that students arrive early, about 20 minutes early. 8) No one will be allowed to leave the exam site for the first 20 minutes of the exam. Students arriving after 20 minutes will be allowed to take the make-up exam. If they arrived late for a non-valid reason, a grade penalty will be applied. Information continued on the next page.9) Your instructor will describe where you will be seated and will assign seats. You are to sit in your assigned seat. Enter through the aisle(s) your instructor describes and find your seat. If you have an 3-digit odd numbered seat, you are on the left side (facing the stage) of the main floor and, I believe, the number is on the right arm of the seat. If you have a 3-digit even numbered seat, you are on the right side (facing the stage) of the main floor and, I believe, the number is on the left arm of the seat. If you have a seat number from 1 to 13, you are in the center section. You will be seated every third seat so there should be 2 people between you and another person. Those of you who attended the first exam should know where your class is seated, but your assigned seat may be different than the first exam. 10) Before you enter the main floor of Elliott Hall of Music, you will be handed a lap board to write on during the exam. Please return those boards when you are finished with the exam. When you are finished, turn in your scantron (answer sheet) to your instructor and show your Purdue ID. If you are finished early, leave quietly. Wait for any friends in the lower lobby. 11) Bring with you the following: pencils, erasers, and Purdue ID. Do not bring a calculator or scratch paper. Turn your cell phone off; or better, do not bring it. Do not wear hats or tinted glasses (sunglasses). 12) A student must contact the course coordinator, Charlotte Bailey, in MATH 802 (496-3145 or [email protected]) IMMEDIATELY, if some emergency prevents him/her from taking the exam. You must see Charlotte in person ASAP to arrange to take the alternate exam. If you have an academic conflict with any of the evening exams, you must let the course coordinator know no later than two business days (Tuesday, October 21) before the exam takes place. If you have an emergency situation that will prevent you from attending an evening exam you must contact the course coordinator by telephone or in person (not by voice mail or e-mail) no later than 2:00 PM on the day of the exam. For non-valid reasons, a make-up may be allowed with a grade penalty. Not knowing the right date, time, or location of an exam is NOT a valid reason for missing it. REMINDER: NO calculators are allowed on this
