HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE SOUTHWEST Recovering Messaging Servers and Databases using Microsoft Exchange Server 2007- Academy ITSC 1091 Date and Time of class: Class CRN: Instructor’s Name: School Site: Phone number:-2- Revised 4/24/07 HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE • SOUTHWEST COURSE SYLLABUS Recovering Messaging Servers and Databases using Microsoft Exchange Server 2007- Academy ITSC 1091 The audience for this course includes people who have experience with Exchange Server 2007 or previous Exchange Server versions. These people will have experience installing and configuring Exchange Server, configuring recipients and mailboxes, and supporting Exchange Server clients. People beginning this course are expected to have at least three years experience working in the Information Technology field—typically in the areas of network administration or Windows Server administration—and one year of Exchange Server administration experience. Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledges, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. This course was designed to be repeated multiple times to improve student proficiency. COURSE OBJECTIVE This one-day course teaches messaging specialists to recover Exchange mailboxes and servers in a variety of disaster scenarios. GOALS Students will learn: • How to perform full and dial-tone recoveries of a mailbox server. • How to repair a mailbox database. • How to perform a full recovery of Client Access servers, Hub Transport servers, Unified Messaging servers, and Edge Transport servers. LEARNING OUTCOMES Students will demonstrate mastery of these objectives by successfully completing assignments. Students will be able to: • Recover messaging databases. • Prepare for and recover from Mailbox server failures. • Prepare for and recover from non-Mailbox server failures. PREREQUISITE Before attending this course, students must have: • Working knowledge of malware. Working knowledge of how PKI is managed in the directory. • Working knowledge of Windows Server 2003 operating system. • Working knowledge of network technologies. • Working knowledge of Active Directory directory service. • Working knowledge of Exchange Server 2007.-3- Revised 4/24/07 • Conceptual understanding of firewalls. • Conceptual understanding of e-mail technologies. Experience using these tools and applications: • NT Backup • NSLookup • Microsoft Windows Explorer • Microsoft Management Console (MMC) • Active Directory Users and Computers • Active Directory Sites and Services • Internet Information Services (IIS) Admin • Microsoft Office Outlook Completion of the following equivalent knowledge: Course 5047A: Introduction to Installing and Managing Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. REQUIRED TEXTBOOK The provided student kit includes a comprehensive workbook and other necessary materials for this workshop. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS This is an 8-hour instructor guided course. Student will complete hands-on, in-class assignments. ATTENDANCE To fully benefit from the class, students are expected to attend all classes. REQUIREMENTS FOR COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE To receive a Certificate of Completion and be awarded Continuing Education Units, students must meet the following requirements: • Attend at least 80% of scheduled class time • Complete the course lab demonstrating 80% mastery of course concepts or equivalent skills demonstration to instructor. OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT-FACULTY INTERACTION Students are encouraged to ask questions and request clarification or guidance as needed during class. A question and answer period is always provided. SPEAKER FORUM At the discretion of the instructor, speakers may be invited to address the class on pertinent topics. CELL PHONES AND PAGERS Cell phones and pagers can be disruptive during class.
