NET Programming with Microsoft .NET ITSE 1091 Date and Time of class: Class CRN: Instructor’s Name: School Site: Phone number:-2- Revised 5/04/07 HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE •••• SOUTHWEST COURSE SYLLABUS Introduction to Visual Basic .NET Programming with Microsoft .NET ITSE 1091 This five-day instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to develop applications in Microsoft Visual Basic .NET for the Microsoft .NET platform. This is a contract class for the IT Academy. COURSE OBJECTIVE This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to design and deploy Microsoft SharePoint Server 2003 products and technologies. GOALS Students will gain skills in: • Program structure, language syntax, and implementation details. • Interfacing VB/NET with existing Microsoft Navigation structure. LEARNING OUTCOMES After completing this workshop, students will be able to: • Create a simple Visual Basic .NET–based application based on the Windows Application template. • Use forms and controls to create a user interface. • Create and use variables and arrays • Create and use Sub and Function procedures, including predefined functions. • Implement decision structures and loops by using conditional expressions. • Validate user input for fields, controls, and forms. • Apply object-oriented programming techniques to create classes, add methods, and add properties. • Resolve syntax, run-time, and logic errors by using the debugger and structured exception handling. • Enhance the user interface by adding menus, status bars, and toolbars. • Create a simple Visual Basic .NET–based Web Forms application that uses an XML Web Service. • Access and manipulate data in a Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL Server™ database by using Microsoft ADO.NET. PREREQUISITE Before attending this course, students must have: • Windows navigation skills-3- Revised 5/04/07 • Experience (at least three months) with developing applications in either a graphical or non-g non-graphical environment. – And – • Completion of Microsoft MSDN Training Course 2667: Introduction to Programming. – Or – • Understanding of the basics of structured programming, including concepts such as flow control, variables and parameters, and function calls. REQUIRED TEXTBOOK The provided student kit includes a comprehensive workbook and other necessary materials for this workshop. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS This is a 40-hour instructor guided course. Student will complete hands-on, in-class assignments. ATTENDANCE To fully benefit from the class, students are expected to attend all classes. REQUIREMENTS FOR COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE To receive a Certificate of Completion and be awarded Continuing Education Units, students must meet the following requirements: • Attend at least 80% of scheduled class time • Complete the course lab demonstrating 80% mastery of course concepts or equivalent skills demonstration to instructor. OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT-FACULTY INTERACTION Students are encouraged to ask questions and request clarification or guidance as needed during class. A question and answer period is always provided. OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREER EXPLORATION Topics relevant to future employment and career exploration opportunities will be presented to the students, including certification and degree prospects. OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION Students are informed of instructional aids and resources, including books, other publications, and web sites relevant to the course.-4- Revised 5/04/07 SPEAKER FORUM At the discretion of the instructor, speakers may be invited to address the class on pertinent topics.
