HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE SOUTHWEST Implementing a Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 Network Infrastructure: Network Hosts - Academy ITSC 1091 Date and Time of class: Class CRN: Instructor’s Name: School Site: Phone number:-2- Revised 4/24/07 HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE • SOUTHWEST COURSE SYLLABUS Implementing a Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 Network Infrastructure: Network Hosts - Academy ITSC 1091 The goal of this two-day course is to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to configure a Windows-based computer to operate in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 networking infrastructure. This is the third course in the Systems Administrator and Systems Engineer tracks for Windows Server 2003. COURSE OBJECTIVE This course trains students to implement the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 networking infrastructure. This course is intended for individuals who are employed as or seeking employment as a systems administrator or systems engineer and is part of the MCSA and MCSE certification track. GOALS Students will learn: • Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol architecture • Subnets • IP addresses, routing, and configuration • Configure servers. LEARNING OUTCOMES Students will demonstrate mastery of these objectives by successfully completing all hands-on, in-class labs that are specific to each unit goal. Students will be able to: • Describe the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol architecture. • Convert Internet Protocol (IP) addresses between decimal and binary. • Calculate a subnet mask. • Create subnets using Variable-Length Subnet Mask (VLSM) and Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR). • Configure a host to use a static IP address. • Assign IP addresses in a multiple subnet network. • Describe the IP routing process. • Configure a host to obtain an IP address automatically. • Configure a host so that automatic private IP address configuration is disabled. • Configure a host to use name servers.-3- Revised 4/24/07 PREREQUISITE • A+ certification or equivalent knowledge and skills. • Course 2274, Managing a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment, or equivalent knowledge and skills. REQUIRED TEXTBOOK The provided student kit includes a comprehensive workbook and other necessary materials for this workshop. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS This is a 16-hour instructor guided course. Student will complete hands-on, in-class assignments. ATTENDANCE To fully benefit from the class, students are expected to attend all classes. REQUIREMENTS FOR COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE To receive a Certificate of Completion and be awarded Continuing Education Units, students must meet the following requirements: • Attend at least 80% of scheduled class time • Complete the course lab demonstrating 80% mastery of course concepts or equivalent skills demonstration to instructor. OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT-FACULTY INTERACTION Students are encouraged to ask questions and request clarification or guidance as needed during class. A question and answer period is always provided. OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREER EXPLORATION Topics relevant to future employment and career exploration opportunities will be presented to the students, including certification and degree prospects. OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION Students are informed of instructional aids and resources, including books, other publications, and web sites relevant to the course.
