Students learn to manage projects throughout the entire project life cycle. This course is designed for students who are new to project management in IT, or who are IT professionals starting to work as project managers in the field. Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. This course was designed to be repeated multiple times to improve student proficiency. COURSE OBJECTIVE Students learn to manage projects throughout the entire project life cycle. GOALS Based on best practices of project management, students learn: • Conflict resolution, negotiation, communication, and team building/leadership • Setting and mapping expectations • Plan development, execution and closure LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon completion of this class students will: • Discuss project management concepts, project management tools and resources, and the various project management skills. • Identify stakeholders and business requirements, perform system requirements analysis, identify roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, create a scope document, and build consensus. • Use the planning process, perform risk management, develop effort, time, and cost estimates, and create a project schedule, budget, and project team. • Create a vendor management plan, a resource management plan, a communication plan, a quality management plan, and a detailed project management plan. • Identify project tracking activities, manage resources, quality, the project team, and changes, and close a project. PREREQUISITES None-3- Revised Mar 6, 2007 REQUIRED TEXTBOOKS Materials included. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS This is a 32-hour instructor guided course. Student will complete hands-on, in-class assignments. REQUIREMENTS FOR COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE To receive a Certificate of Completion and Continuing Education Units, students must meet the following requirements: • Attend at least 80% of scheduled class time • Complete course labs demonstrating 80% mastery of course concepts or equivalent skills demonstration to instructor. CERTIFICATION This course may be used to prepare students for Wireless# exam. ATTENDANCE To fully benefit from the class, students are expected to attend all classes. OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT-FACULTY INTERACTION Students are encouraged to ask questions and request clarification or guidance as needed during class. A question and answer period is always provided. OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREER EXPLORATION Topics relevant to future employment and career exploration opportunities will be presented to the students, including certification and degree prospects. OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION Students are informed of instructional aids and resources, including books, other publications, and web sites relevant to the course.
