Daily Quizzes & Classwork– 20% iii. Homework – 15% iv. RETAKES and Late Work– Will NOT be allowed. v. Notebook graded in 3rd and 6th 6 weeks will count as 6 Daily grades. Expect to put in an average of 2 hours studying and doing homework between classes. Homework is due the following class period before class starts unless told otherwise. No Late Work will be accepted. A Grade of 0 will be recorded for any assignment not received at the time it is due. (This includes make-up work.) II. MAKE-UP WORK You will be allowed one week from the day of absence to make up any missed work. When you return to school, you need to check to see what you missed, HANDCOPY any NOTES that were taken, and study them. It is your responsibility to turn in work on time and to ask questions if you are unclear about your assignment or the notes. DON’T FORGET TO MAKE UP QUIZZES!! YOU KNOW YOU HAVE THEM!! III. DROPPING LOWEST GRADE Your lowest daily grade will be dropped if the following requirements are met: A. You have no tardies for the 6 weeks. B. You have turned in all of the homework assignments on time. IV. HOMEWORK PAPERS You must show your work to get credit for the problem. Answers only will be counted wrong. If All homework is turned in each 6 weeks On Time, the lowest Daily grade will be dropped. Complete Homework turned in before the day it is due will earn 3 extra points. While Late work is not accepted, one free homework will be allowed each 6 weeks. If a homework zero is dropped however, then a Daily grade will not be dropped. All work is to be done in pencil. All papers are to be headed as follows: NAME PERIOD DATE Lesson # and Title V. QUIZZES Be prepared for a quiz each time we meet unless a test is scheduled. There may not be a quiz every time, but be prepared by Annotating, Condensing and Studying your notes, because there usually will be one. Watch your 6 week calendar for this class to know which lessons the quizzes and tests will be over. VI. NOTEBOOK – **VERY IMPORTANT** DO NOT THROW AWAY ANY OF : YOUR WORK, QUIZZES, HANDOUTS, TESTS, OR NOTES FOR THIS CLASS!!! You will need them to study for quizzes and tests in this class and for your notebook which will carry the weight of 6 Daily grades in the 3rd and 6th 6 weeks. Instructions for putting your notebook together will be explained during the 3rd and 6th 6 weeks. Date and Title all of your notes, homework, quizzes, tests, etc. to make organizing the notebook easier. Put Titles and Subtitles on your notes as you are taking them. We will use the “Cornell Notes” style which requires you to Highlight and Annotate your notes at the end of each day that you have this class.MATH1314_ALL_BUMBAUGH_SP11 Teacher: J. Bumbaugh Spring 2011 College Algebra Dual Credit Syllabus VII. Class Rules: The classroom rules are as follows: Turn in homework which is due for the day before the class period begins. Be in your assigned seat/area ready to work before the tardy bell rings. Bring/have paper, pencil, pens of several colors, highlighters, textbook and notebook every day. Follow all directions given by teacher. Always do your own work. Do not allow others to copy off of your homework and do not get your homework from others. If your eyes wander onto another desk during quizzes and tests, your paper and possibly the person’s paper your gaze is fixed upon will receive 0 credit. Raise your hand to ask a question. Do not shout out responses when you know the answer to one of MY questions. I will call on you!!! Enable your fellow students to learn without disruption. Show respect for me and your classmates at all times, but especially when visitors are present, during the pledges, when announcements are being made, or I have a phone call. Come to class prepared to learn. No gum, candy, food, or drinks will be allowed. VIII. The Path to SUCCESS in this Class: DO YOUR OWN WORK! If you need to get help, then let someone answer questions which will enable you to solve the homework problems for yourself. Let them show you examples which don’t completely take the practice experience away from you. Under no circumstances should you copy from anyone nor should you allow anyone to copy from you. If you do your best, do all that is asked of you to the best of your ability, do not cheat, and get help when you need it, you will be successful in this class! DAILY ATTENDANCE is a vital key to your success in all subjects, but especially math. Strive to not miss class unless it’s an emergency!!! Be sure to check the class website when you miss!! TUTORING – I am here from 7:45am to 8:30am Tues.-Fri to offer tutorial time to you. I will also be available after school except on Wednesdays. Do not be discouraged if there are many others in for help. It’s normal and we work together well. Success is inevitable for those who try their best, ask questions when ever they have them and for those who…never… never… never… give up! Don’t let low scores discourage you. We have all made them and will continue to from time to time. Not everyone will receive A’s and B’s, but that does not mean that the rest were not successful in learning some very advanced ideas. If everyone who made less than an A or a B were considered failures then this would be just a Pass/Fail Class instead of a Weighted Pre-AP class with a reputation of sending out successful students who are well prepared for the next level of mathematics at any institution. You can’t fail if you don’t give up. If you are struggling, then I need to see that you are trying by seeing and hearing from you often in tutorials and in class. IX. MATERIALS: The following materials should be brought every day to class: A. Pencil B. Red pen for grading C. Notebook paper (not spiral paper ripped out) D. 1” to 2” Binder E. Highlighter(s) F. Covered textbook G. Agenda (provided by the school or your own) H. Graphing calculator (provided by the school or your
