Kidd Spring 2011 College Algebra Dual Credit Syllabus Keeping Notebooks **VERY IMPORTANT** DO NOT THROW AWAY ANY OF : YOUR WORK, QUIZZES, HANDOUTS, TESTS, OR NOTES FOR THIS CLASS!!! You will need them to study for quizzes and tests in this class and for your notebook which will carry the weight of 6 Daily grades in the 3rd and 6th 6 weeks. Instructions for putting your notebook together will be explained during the 3rd and 6th 6 weeks. Date and Title all of your notes, homework, quizzes, tests, etc. to make organizing the notebook easier. Put Titles and Subtitles on your notes as you are taking them. We will use the “Cornell Notes” style which requires you to Highlight and Annotate your notes at the end of each day that you have this class. Homework Papers Turn in work in the appropriate drawer before the class period begins. You must show your work to get credit for the problem. Answers only will be counted wrong. If all homework is turned in each 6 weeks, the lowest Quiz grade will be dropped. Complete Homework turned in before the day it is due will earn 3 extra points. All work is to be done in pencil. Points will be deducted when a pen is used. All papers are to be headed as follows: NAME PERIOD DATE Each assignment also needs a title (page and problem #’s) at the top of the page. Quizzes Be prepared for a quiz each time we meet unless a test is scheduled. There may not be a quiz every time, but be prepared by Annotating, Condensing, and Studying your notes, because there usually will be one. Make-up work Students who are absent are responsible for picking up their own makeup work from the folders on the “While you were out” bulletin board. You will need to HANDCOPY any NOTES that were taken and study them. You will be allowed one week from the day of absence to make up any missed work. It is your responsibility to turn in work on time and to ask questions if you are unclear about your assignment or the notes. DON’T FORGET TO MAKE UP QUIZZES!! YOU KNOW YOU HAVE THEM! IPODS and MP3 Players I allow IPODS and MP3 players in my room after instruction is over. This means that you may listen to them only if you have started the homework/daily work. If you are listening to them during my instruction, you will receive one warning and on the second offense, it will be taken up till the end of the school day. They are not permitted during quizzes or exams. Remember they are not allowed in the halls so it is your responsibility to put it away when you are dismissed from class. Borrowing Supplies If you find yourself without the necessary supplies for class, first ask a friend if you can borrow, but I do have some available to you for in class use. I don’t loan pencils, but you may purchase them for 10 cents (exact change only). I do not loan out calculators!MATH1314_ALL_KIDD_SP11 Teacher: S.
