Development and Evolution of the Party System First party system started during 1790-1824 Washington was a federalist as well as Hamilton and they did not like parties Madison, Thomas Jefferson wanted a stronger national government but they believed that some power should be left to the states. They are being tired of being run over in the legislative process so they form the Democratic Republican party. o They wanted to be active in the 13th stateso Collectively organized on a national level o They win the white house in 1800 and dominate for many yearsII.
