For my first job analysis assignment in PSY 255 I chose to interview two individuals who currently have jobs I may be interested in pursuing in the future I got the chance to talk with Allison Meldrum a Registered Dietician and Sarah Jeppesen a Trauma Therapist Learning more about their positions and how they earned their titles was very interesting to me and helped me figure out more about what I want to do after I graduate I m excited to share what I learned while conducting each job analysis Section one I conducted each job analysis through an online web meeting and asked each candidate a similar set of questions These questions were about how they got their position how long they ve been doing it what the most important part of their job is etc Allison Meldrum is a Registered Dietician and Owner of Crossroads Nutrition Therapy She works to improve people s relationship with food and their body While she has only owned Crossroads for six years she has specialized in eating disorders for over ten years ONET recognizes a registered dietitian as someone who Plans and conducts food service or nutritional programs to assist in the promotion of health and control of disease This definition lines up with all of the information Allison provided to me about her job Sarah Jeppesen actually has two titles she is a trauma therapist and mental health therapist who works for a private practice called A Safe Space for Healing Sarah and Allison both gave me a short list of tasks they think are essential to be able to Sarah has been working as a therapist for five years now Section Two perform well at their job I ve listed Sarah s top four below Communicating openly Building trust and relationships Taking detailed notes Understanding the billing insurance process Sarah says that creating a safe space for her client to feel comfortable sharing their experiences with her is the most important task She communicates with her client that they should feel comfortable opening up and sharing their experiences She also states that building a relationship with her clients allows them to not feel judged and allows them to go to that vulnerable state An important part of Sarah s job is taking detailed notes during intake and after meeting with her clients Another important task she says is required to learn is how to document processes and how to bill clients A fifth important task that would be necessary for success in this position is maintaining confidentiality via ONET Confidentiality is required in most cases unless the information provided to the therapist or counselor raises a threat to a person s life Allison Meldrum gave me three important aspects tasks that she thinks anyone who is considering becoming a registered dietitian should be able to complete Be able to counsel and understand others Be able to be educated and open to learning new things Work well with others Although Allison is a dietitian she works more as a therapist She says that before she could help others she needed to be in the right mental state Allison says the most important part of her job is being an expert in it She has reached a high level of education but says she is also open to learning new things As a part of her job she has to collaborate with many others like psychiatrists and other psychological specialists Since she only gave me her top three tasks I went to ONET to find other important skills required to be a registered dietitian ONET says that the top most important tasks are assessing nutritional needs and evaluating laboratory tests I think it s really interesting how ONET and a real dietitian provide completely different tasks Allison gave me personal tasks that connects her with her clients and ONET gave me technical terms I found comfort in knowing that both Allison and Sarah seemed very passionate about helping people as they both said it was the main goal of their work Section Three The four most important human attributes that are required to be a registered dietitian are empathy intelligence honestly and flexibility A dietitian must be empathetic and understanding with their clients They must be intelligent enough to understand each disorder and know what different people s bodies need They need to be honest about the treatment process and honesty builds trust Both Sarah and Allison talk about how important it is to build a trusting relationship with their clients The final human attribute that is needed to be a registered dietitian is loyalty Allison stays loyal to her clients in the time period in which they need her She is often open with clients in the beginning about her availability and makes time for them if necessary Sarah says that the four most important qualities all trauma therapists need are patience dependability empathy and self awareness It made sense that both Sarah and Allison listed empathy as a top four characteristic A trauma therapist needs to be patient with their clients Sarah says that it can take months for her clients to open up to her about their experiences and emotions Self awareness is what Sarah thinks is the most important of all characteristics A therapist needs to be able to separate their own emotions from their clients Sometimes this means even going to counseling yourself to fully understand the process Dependability is another huge one While Sarah sets boundaries with her clients and makes sure they respect and understand them she usually keeps time slots open during the day for emergency meetings and fits her clients into her schedule as soon as possible Section Four I asked ChatGPT the five most important tasks that a registered dietitian completes and the response was somewhat similar to the answers Allison gave me 1 Nutritional Assessment 2 Personalized Nutritional Plans 3 Education and Counseling 4 Monitoring and Evaluation 5 Advocacy and Public Health Promotion The four most important human attributes according to ChatGPT are When I asked ChatGPT to provide me with the five tasks a trauma therapist completes each day they were not the tasks I expected 1 Scientific Acumen 2 Communication Skills 3 Empathy and Interpersonal Skills 4 Critical Thinking 1 Assessment and Diagnosis 2 Trauma Informed Therapy 3 Crisis Intervention 4 Psychoeducation 5 Collaboration and Advocacy ChatGPT recognizes the top four important human attributes as 1 Empathy and Compassion 2 Cultural Competence 3 Resilience 4 Effective Communication Section Five AI is on the rise as of recently
