are doing technologically well Education Individual Culture o Family Values Discipline Structural o Family Time constraints Financial Responsibilities o Differences in quality of the public education Big gap when it comes to groups when it comes to graduation Whites blacks Asians etc 10 goes to private schools 2 are homeschooled how education is paid for if your in the top 20 of families then your 5 times more likely to go to 57 state 9 federal government 34 local district taxes college unequal childhoods working class o accomplishment by natural growth concerted cultivation different social classes raise their children different middle more involved with school activities working free in the way they want to grow up more middle class students get incentives Income Public Schools Funding Cycle of Poverty Equality Means opportunity Ends Labor Market o Hierarchy Education Imagined Community self fulfillment ways of thinking networking discipline Solutions Competition o Cheating o Test centered o Critical thinking o Creativity Graduation Centralization Quality of Teachers We think about education as the only way of succeeding but most middle upper class kids will be okay because you
