WWIICurrent Lecture“Pack a Court” -FDR didn’t like the Supreme Court because they kept denying his bills to be passed-his plan to fix the court was to divide it- 3 liberals, 4 consecutives and 2 “swings” -since FDR was upset about their decisions he made an argument saying that the justices were old and crippled, therefore they should no longer serve—this argument made him look bad because he suffered from a disease, which made him look like a hypocrite New Deal -the New Deal didn’t end depression-there were several things this plan did not do--bring about civil rights, women’s equal rights, and socialism-it did establish child labor, reestablish organized labor, make government responsible for securing citizens against bankruptcy, hunger, unemployment, destitution -Americans were getting use to the idea of social safety net which was a problem-WWII is the event that got us out of the Great Depression because we were making equipment for our allies-American followed fascism-we didn’t go through another depression after WWII because we kept a military economy because of the global threat of communismThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
