Origins/Early Cold WarCurrent LectureI. Cold WarThe Cold War lasted 50+ years. Capitalism is an economic system while democracy is a government system. It is entirely possible to have a capitalist economy without democracy. Both sides, the United States and the Soviet Union, were equally responsible for the beginning and end of the war. They both also took actions that provoked and concerned the other side. The United States and the Soviet Union both thought that the other side could not be trusted. “The Soviet Union is a country with leadership that cannot be trusted.”II. Origins/Early Cold War- Containmento The United States wanted to keep communism from spreading so they tried to make new policies to contain it and keep it from spreading/happening. Affected home life, gender & sexuality views and political beliefs.- Truman Doctrineo Late 1940’s, President Truman got word that other countries governmentswere unstable (Greece and Turkey). He offered millions of dollars to these countries government saying they would support and offer aid to any country whose government is struggling in order to prevent communism.These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
